My topic for this essay came from the Pittsburgh Post Gazette; the headline that caught my eye “Pigeon Fight” was in big bold black letters. As I read on and learned more about this topic I began to see that this was going to be a very touchy subject to many people. Pigeons are not the most friendly or attractive animals and yes I have personally had bad experiences with pigeons in Pittsburgh. Like the time I was standing outside of Shannon Hall and a pigeon puffed itself up and started attacking my shoe because it was the closest thing by it, during one of its fits. None the less pigeons are animals and as animals they should be treated with the same respect of any other animal. Many people feel the same way that I do about this subject, people with theses such beliefs have actually formed groups such as SHARK they help protect animals. SHARK stands for Showing Animals Respect and Kindness, they try to stop the abuse of many animals, including calves and horses used in rodeos and bulls killed at bullfights. Bob Barker a long time animal activist has also jumped on this band wagon as a spokesperson and financial donator to this new campaign to help stop the death of pigeons for “sport”. I think that this will be an interesting battle and we will see you wins.
