My topic for this essay came from the Pittsburgh Post Gazette; the headline that caught my eye “Pigeon Fight” was in big bold black letters. As I read on and learned more about this topic I began to see that this was going to be a very touchy subject to many people. Pigeons are not the most friendly or attractive animals and yes I have personally had bad experiences with pigeons in Pittsburgh. Like the time I was standing outside of Shannon Hall and a pigeon puffed itself up and started attacking my shoe because it was the closest thing by it, during one of its fits. None the less pigeons are animals and as animals they should be treated with the same respect of any other animal. Many people feel the same way that I do about this subject, people with theses such beliefs have actually formed groups such as SHARK they help protect animals. SHARK stands for Showing Animals Respect and Kindness, they try to stop the abuse of many animals, including calves and horses used in rodeos and bulls killed at bullfights. Bob Barker a long time animal activist has also jumped on this band wagon as a spokesperson and financial donator to this new campaign to help stop the death of pigeons for “sport”. I think that this will be an interesting battle and we will see you wins.
It actually took me a while to think about what I should write for this topic. Its a strange thing to ask someone to do, look at yourself through someone elses eyes. As weird as it was for me to think about what my total opposite would think of me, i realized that is something that everyone does. Everyone thinks about what other people think about them. So during this process I came to the conclusion that my opposite would see me as a person who cares alot about people in her life and what they think of her. She likes to make people happy, conflict is not something that she enjoys in her life she feels there are better ways to spend your time. She is cautious in unfamiliar situations, they make her feel extremely uncomfortable. Such as meeting new people, she becomes a shrinking violet not always but 99% of the time. The unknown is something that terrifies her its like walking down a dark alley in New York City at night, you don’t always know whats going to be at the other end and sometimes you don’t want to know. She doesn’t always know how to deal with the unknown in the best ways but she always seems to make it through it okay. Relying on other people to help her with these things is not something that she frequently does, she feels as if she should go through things on her own. So in short she is a shy person who acts as if they are not shy, and that they do good in unfamiliar situations.
A DIFFERENT WAY OF EATING A BURGER AND FRIES
When I started thinking about this paper, I honestly had no idea on what place I was going to pick. It took me over a week to decide what I would choose, and I stuck with my first choice. I choose the restaurant Five Guys. This establishment sticks out from all the other fast food places that we all love. They as a franchise have a unique approach in how they serve their food, the quality of their food, and their service that they provide for their customers.
I think that this place is a better choice than others because of its unique approach to how they run their business and how they keep their customers coming back. My angle for this paper, unlike many of the other fast food restaurants Five Guys does not spend money on advertising. They spend their money on high quality fresh ingredients, for example they have fresh meat delivered to their stores every morning, they cut up their own vegetables every morning and they have their own bakery that delivers to them several times a week. They also have NO freezers in their restaurants only coolers because they only have fresh ingredients. Five guys is a different way of eating a burger and fries. Try it out sometime!!!!
As I walk down the street I see the glistening sun shining off the building. I see the reflection of the city and the reflection of the people skating past. I see cabs driving past, I see a family walking past.

“Attractions to Pittsburgh”
The first thing that attracted me to the city was obviously the Art Institute of Pittsburgh, and then after I came to visit the school I fell in love with the city. Back where I live we do not have art galleries, museums, theaters, ballet or anything that is accessible without driving. In my town you have to drive to get anywhere, even down to the grocery store. So that also catch my eye, I would rather walk to my destination than drive to it, this sounds weird to most people but I have a terrible fear of driving so this was actually a plus for me. The culture that the city offers is exactly what I was looking for, I have always felt out of place where I live because I love art and I like going to art galleries and museums. Where I’m from your considered weird if you do not go to the local fairs truck and tractor pulls. I have heard good things about the city from family friends that have lived here; they actually talked my dad into letting me live here.
Basically though Pittsburgh is my stepping stone to New York, I could have gone to New York right off the bat but I felt as if I would have been in a culture shock compared to the small town that I came from. I researched Pittsburgh and came to visit it several times and I really liked the people and the area. Some people told me that the city was boring and that there was nothing to do, but i discovered that yes downtown itself is really boring but if you go outside of downtown to Southside, the strip district, waterfront or many of the other little sub parts of Pittsburgh you can find many interesting things to do. There were a lot of factors that attracted me to Pittsburgh, and i do not regret moving here I love this city and it will always be my home.
My hometown is New Concord, Ohio. It is much different from Pittsburgh in every possible way
that you could think of. New Concord is a small place, its not even big enough to be considered a town
it’s a village. There is no public transportation; we do not even have a Wal-mart. If you would like to go
to a Wal-mart you would have to travel about 20-25 to either town beside us. The people in my “village”
all know each other and most of them have been there all their lives. In Pittsburgh you can walk around
for hours and you might see one person that you know. When you go to the local grocery store in my
hometown you will see everyone that you just saw at school you’ll see family and friends, its like a huge
reunion. Pittsburgh has a higher employment rate and better economy then my town in Ohio. There are
not as many layoffs as there is in New Concord, Ohio. The types of jobs that are available where I live
are limited to factories and fast food jobs don’t get me wrong there are good jobs in my town but there
is not as big of a variety as Pittsburgh. We do not have the museums or the theaters or any of the fine
arts available in my town unless you count the local cinema and I definitely wouldn’t. So basically New
Concord is a small hicktown and Pittsburgh is a big city well at least to me.
